Best Bicycle Trails in Florida

If you’re a cyclist in Florida, it’s normal to be worried about bicycle safety. After all, Florida is ranked as the most dangerous state for cyclists. Biking on busy roads can be dangerous, resulting in accidents and injuries. While some trails may intersect with traffic, they tend to be much safer than commuting.

So, if you’re looking for a trail to ride on the weekend for leisure, exercise, or even travel, here are some of our favorite trails in all of Florida.

South Florida Bike Trails

If you’re located in South Florida, there are many beautiful bike trails for you to enjoy. From Shark Valley Loop to Old Cutler Trail, you’re bound to find one that you love.

Shark Valley Loop

Shark Valley Loop is a beautiful trail that goes through the Everglades. This trail is 15-miles long and paved. It doesn’t go through traffic, and it’s about 20 feet wide throughout the whole loop. This is a great option for both tourists and locals, as the view is fantastic and the ride is smooth.

The Lake Trail

The Lake Trail is located in Palm Beach and is 5 miles long. For the duration of the trail, you’ll ride between beautiful waters and large, stunning homes and historic buildings.

Old Cutler Trail

The Old Cutler Trail is a great option if you love tree canopies and beautiful gardens, as they make up most of this trail’s scenery. Old Cutler Trail is 11 miles long and will bring you by Matheson Hammock Park, the Fairchild Tropical Garden, and more.

Gulf Coast Bike Trails

If you live on the Gulf Coast, it may seem like a long trek to journey to the south for their glorious beach trails, but don’t worry, the Gulf Coast has many gems of its own, including the following.

Pinellas Trail

If you’re looking for a long trail, the Pinellas Trail is a great option, as it’s 34 miles long. It’s one of the most popular and well-marked trails in the Tampa region, and you’ll get to enjoy seeing the ocean, historic buildings, and views of downtown along the way.

Withlacoochee State Trail

Withlacoochee is another long trail that brings you through the beautiful views of the Gulf Coast. This trail is 46 miles long and paved the entire way.

Boca Grande Bike Trail

The Boca Grande Bike Trail is much shorter than other Gulf Coast trails, at only 6.5 miles. Another great nearby trail is the Cape Haze Pioneer Bike Trail, which runs for about 9 miles.

Central Florida Bike Trails

If you’re located in central Florida, you’re not going to get any beautiful ocean views, but you’ll still be able to explore beautiful wildlife and wonderful lake and spring views along the way.

West Orange Trail

West Orange Trail is a 22-mile long trail that is paved all the way through. It’s about 15 miles west of Orlando, running from Apopka to Winter Garden.

Van Fleet State Trail

This 29-mile bike trail will take you through the Green Swamp (just west of Orlando). It’s an incredibly rural trail, but the path remains straight and flat. It’s often quiet, so you will likely have the trail to yourself.

East Central Regional Rail Trail

The East Central Regional Rail Trail is one of the best trails that central Florida has to offer, running for 50 miles. This smooth, paved trail is a great option for those who want to see beautiful scenery, restaurants, stores, and more.

Northern Florida Bike Trails

Northern Florida, including the panhandle, is often forgotten about, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have great trails there as well. Whether you’re visiting or you’re a local, there are some great trails to be experienced.

Nature Coast Trail

This rail trail is 32 miles long and is packed with great scenery, including the view of a beautiful train trestle and the Suwanee River. It’s paved all the way through, so the ride will be smooth.

Jacksonville-Baldwin Bike Trail

This rural trail is 14.5 miles long and a great trail for anyone who loves history. It runs along the Camp Milton Historic Preserve, a great place to stop and explore the town’s local history.

Tallahassee-St. Mark’s Historic Railroad State Trail

This 6-mile bicycle trail is Florida’s first-ever rail-to-trail, developed in 1988. It’s 12 feet wide with lots of shade and scenery along the way. It’ll take you from Tallahassee to St. Marks.
